Teatro Colon - Buenos Aires

The Colón Theater (tel. 54-11-43787344) is the pride of Argentinians because represents its love for culture and history, Located at 621 Libertad Street, is the most important lyric theater in Latin America and is considered as one of the four great opera houses in the world.

Later a building period of 20 years with the participation in the project of the architects Francisco Tamburini, Victor Meano and Julio Dorman, the building, with Italian Renaissance characteristics, was inaugurated in 1908, with the staging of the opera of Giuseppe Verdi, "Aida".

The Theater has hosted and host performances of the most famous artists of all over the world, this magnificent opera house has hosted notable performers including singers like María Callas, Enrico Caruso, Alfredo Kraus, Beniamino Gigli, Victoria de los Angeles, Lily Pons, the three tenors (José Carreras, Plácido Domingo, Luciano Pavarotti) among others. It received also dancers such as Mikhail Baryshnikov, Anna Pavlova, Julio Bocca, Nureyev, Vaslav Nijinsky, Paloma Herrera, Alicia Alonso. Conductors like Igor Stravinski, Arturo Toscanini, Herbert von Karajan, Otto Klemperer, Zubin Mehta and composers Igor Stravinsky, Richard Strauss, Camille Saint-Saëns, Manuel de Falla, Ástor Piazzolla and others.

But its musical activity comprehend all genres, including the tango. Inside the theater you can see its dome which was painted by the world renowned Argentine artist Raúl Soldi, you can see also the theatre museum and the Salon Dorado (Golden Room). It is also house of the Ballet School which had famous dancers Julio Bocca, Paloma Herrera, and Maximiliano Guerra as professors.
