In August 27, 1920, the Sociedad Radio Argentina broadcast the "Richard Wagner's Parsifal opera from the Coliseo Theater in downtown Buenos Aires". Radio Cultura was the world's first radio station.

These days, exists more than 1,500 radio stations licensed, 260 AM broadcasting and 1150 FM broadcasting.Programs of variety for youth and music dominate the FM format; news, debate, and sports are AM radio's primary broadcasts, the number of illegal radio stations has increased lately, the government has recently extended a large number of licenses and has also begun a program to facilitate the legalization of existing stations.

Some of the more important radio stations are:

  • LRA Radio Nacional, also known as Radio Nacional Argentina, it started transmitting in 1937, the radio`s programs focus on news, culture, history , Argentine music; Folklore, Tango and Argentine Rock and others genres, sports like national football matches, Olimpic Games or the FIFA World Cup.
  • AM Radio América, focused in news, consolidated between the adults of high socioeconomic level, today is recognized to give Essential Information.
  • Radio Mitre, operated by Grupo Clarín.
  • Radio Continental, is a private AM, speech-based and musical network.
  • FM Rock & Pop 95.9, located at Buenos Aires, focused in Latin Rock music.
  • Mega 98.3, only Argentine Rock.
