Skiing has become very popular in Argentina, there are important resorts specially designed for winter sports lovers. All the resorts are located in various provinces in the West and South part of Argentina, close to Andes mountains.
The main ski centers in Argentina are:
  • Penitentes: It is 2,580 meters above sea level and have the imposing summit of the Aconcagua as background, Penitentes Resort is 167 km away from the city of Mendoza, this resort offers 26 ski runs with powder snow, different lengths and slopes, four of these runs are approved by the International Ski Federation, and there are also areas for free-style skiing.
  • Las Leñas: Valle de las Leñas is 2,240 meters above the sea level and is located in the middle of the Andes mountain range, in the province of Mendoza. Is the most modern resort in Argentina, the trails are 10% beginner, 23% intermediate and 67% advanced. There are also an snowboard park and a half pipe.
  • Caviahue: Caviahue means “meeting place” in the Mapuche language, is located to the northeast of the province of Neuquén, in the middle of the Andes mountain range and 1,647 meters above sea level. This mountain village offers lakes and lagoons, waterfalls, thermal baths, clean air and in a peaceful environment covered with snow even in the spring.
  • Cerro Bayo: Cerro Bayo; located only 9km from Villa La Angostura, in the province of Neuquén, with the Andes mountain range as background, on the shore of lake Nahuel Huapi and its hidden bays; is an ideal place to practice winter sports and a spectacular meeting point for families and friends.
  • La Hoya: La Hoya is located close to the town of Esquel, province of Chubut, is a ski resort and mountain activities center surrounded by wonderful lakes as Futalaufquen and Menéndez in the Alerces National Park. Is the perfect place to enjoy nature and sports. Tourist can enjoy other activities such as take a trip in "La Trochita"; a mythical steam train; or visit to the Welsh community of Trevelin, where people conserve their customs, as their famous desserts and sweets.
  • Cerro Castor: Cerro Castor is located only 27 km. away from Ushuaia, it has the best snow and the longest ski season in South America, there are 17 km long ski runs, there are also excellent and various off-piste runs, this site calls for visitants to enjoy its fascinating geography.
  • Chapelco: Chapelco is located 20 km. away from San Martin de los Andes, the capital of Neuquén, is a wonderful mountain for forest and skiing, the splendor of its snow and the panoramic views of Lake Lácar and the volcano Lanín make it on of the most attractive places to enjoy outdoor sports.
  • Cerro Catedral: Cerro Catedral is located in the Nahuel Huapi National Park, only 19 km. away from San Carlos de Bariloche (Río Negro), in the summer, Cerro Catedral receives visitors, who come to the mountains to go hiking and mountain biking, in the winter months, Cerro Catedral becomes the most highly developed winter sports center in South America, with its 70 km. of ski slopes and 200 skiable hectares.
